Minister warns of power cuts
Yesterday the minister warned that Eskom was going into it’s summer repairs and maintenance phase and warned that there was a possibility of further electricity cuts.
The indication is that they have last years experiences of unscheduled blackouts to learn from and make attempts not to have a repeat.
Last night on 567 Cape Talk I listened with interest to well known economist Chris Hart saying that The infrastructure, electrical, rods and water, which were essentially built to service a population of 8 million people were overburdened in democratic South Africa.
Encouraging consumers to use energy and water sparingly is certainly comendable but the fact remains that the infrastructure was simply not designed to support the growing population who demand energy. As Mr hart indicated, the government needs to strat thinking in terms of there not being eneough energy for the population and not trying to make the available energy stretch any further.
There has been a massive amount of money rerouted to cater for stadium building and transport infrastructure at the expense of water and electricity.
Plan ahead and don’t be left in the dark next year, we are in for many years of excess demand on our power grid.
