34% electricity increase

The proposed 34% electricity increase has been met with some strong words from business leaders saying that increases at this level could very well see a return to increasing interest rates which, in an economy which is in desperate need of some positive impetus could be catastrophic.

Eskm are defending their position on the basis that their capacity is dwindling and there is a desperate shortage in the power generation area and that the only answer is to build new power stations. The further response from Eskom was in not so many words, deal with the increases or deal with power cuts.

The response should have been along the lines of, ” we have the following solutions, which, if implemented by business and the public at large will lower demand for electricity and we will be able to comfortably deal with our expansion projects”

We have seen the advertsing campaigns encouraging people to give up the “addiction’ to electricity and accolades to Eskom and Governments attempts to highlight the problem. Is it really necessary to adopt such an arrogant stance? Of course not, but then with the tide of mudslinging going on in Official office right now, who would have expected anything less….

Here is a suggestion, I use electricity in my 200l geyser for 1 to 2 hours a day and it heats the entire capacity. I put on the geyser 2 hours or so before I go to bed and there is plenty of hot water in the morning, and on top of it I am making a significant saving.

Lets all just do it…. is so easy and such a non issue once you are in the habit of doing it.
